RESIDENTIAL

One of the biggest arenas for designers is residential design, or the interiors of spaces in which people live. This can include houses, apartments, condos, and anywhere else where people reside. Being comfortable at home is essential now, and in this sense the intervention of an interior designer who collaborates with you will help you plan spaces, thinking of how you live and what you need. How can we help you?

The design of your home shouldn’t revolve solely on aesthetics. Your home should be designed based on lifestyle, specific goals and what makes you feel most comfortable. The design process with our clients is a collaborative one. We create a floor plan that encompasses your wish list and work together until we’ve reached a final layout. We then begin the sourcing process from selecting materials, lighting and furniture while also designing certain elements such as cabinets and architectural details. At the end of the process, you will have a set of drawings that will allow a contractor to quote your renovation. We can’t wait to start a new project with you!

Driftwood Renovation

Scope: Custom Home, Renovation
Location: Thorold, ON

Originally designed and built in 1990, the new project twenty-five years later was to freshen up the interiors and exterior for the new owners. The primary goal was to modernize the finishes, re-design the kitchen and create a less formal distinction between the kitchen and the adjoining dining area while incorporating seating for television viewing or reading. The existing kitchen and dining locations were swapped to improve the flow of the main living area.

The front foyer welcomes you with a dramatic large-scale hand painted mural reflecting the home’s surrounding natural landscape. The emphasis of the kitchen is the generous island with a lowered cooktop and quartz cladded partition with a built-in television. The warm charcoal of the quarter-sawn ash cabinets contracts nicely with the quartz countertops.  The dining room has multiple views of the surrounding landscape and access to the back gardens through the sliding glass doors. The living room off the dining area ties in with the emphasis of the surrounding landscape. In the master bedroom, a new paint colour replaced wallcoverings and the built-in loveseat was reupholstered.

My husband and I worked with Lex and Susan Parker on the building of our home. The project was substantial…….from the original architectural design which included both the exterior and interior to the interior decorating including custom design of furnishings and floor coverings. Three of the ten acres were professionally landscaped with the focal points…..stone grotto and waterfall, flagstone patios and walkways, quarry stone walls, ponds and gardens….designed by Lex Parker Design.Designs which have stood the test of time. It was a joy to work with such talented professionals.
